In this painting I imagined Magdalene arriving on the shore of France amidst the turbulence of her times but still maintaining her inner peace. It’s said that after her arrival Magdalene taught and healed throughout that region until her death. Magdalene’s remains are now kept at her Basilica in San Maxmin. On her Feast Day, her skull is ceremoniously taken out, covered with a golden mask, and walked in a procession through the streets. For hundreds of years the farmers in this agricultural region would not harvest until after her Feast Day.
